St. Martin’s day is a religious holiday celebrated on November 11. This holiday is celebrated by fasting and holding a lantern processional through town. Most processionals travel from the school to the church, with children carrying the lighted lanterns.

In some parts of the Germany, Netherlands and Belgium, children make their own lantern and go door to door with the lantern, and sing St. Martin songs, in exchange for sweets.
